SIXTH SENSE: SPREAD THE LOVE

Some might call it a “Hallmark Holiday,” others may view it more as an opportunity to express their love for that special someone.

Either way, we probably all agree that Valentines Day is relatively easy to forget about for the rest of the year. At least until that pang of obligation hits your wallet when you see the price of a dozen red roses on the way home from work!

It has got me thinking though, perhaps having a day dedicated to celebrating a relationship with one individual is just a tad short-sighted? Perhaps, we should be somehow honouring the many other valued relationships we build throughout our lives too?

What about our work colleagues? Especially those we have leaned on over the course of the last year and have truly been there when we needed them?

What about our clients? Especially those that truly value what we do, respect us for it and treat us as genuine partners, not just suppliers?

What about the long-standing relationships with media owners, where both parties have benefited from the ‘give and the take’ that comes from years of successful trading?

Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m not about to start delivering numerous bouquets to various individuals all over London. A big old friendly hug is probably about the limit to my expression of affection.

I’d venture to suggest, however, that, in the agency world, there are plenty of enduring relationships worth celebrating… not just those we cherish over a candlelit dinner!
