SIXTH SENSE: RECORD BREAKING LIONESSES

IT’S FINALLY HOME!

England’s victory over Germany at Wembley yesterday broke a number of records :

Early indications suggest that live TV viewing peaked at 17.4m last night (without streams.) The previous record for viewing an England Women’s match was 11.7m recorded v USA in the World Cup semi-final defeat in 2019.

The attendance of 87,192 is the highest recorded attendance at a European Championship Final in either Men’s or Women’s competition.  The previous record being the 79,115 in the 1964 Men’s Final.

Overall attendance at Euro 2022 was 574,875, more than double the previous record of 240,055 set in the Netherlands in 2017.

Though there is a way to go to reach the 31.1m who viewed the Euro 2020 Men’s final, Women’s sport has definitely arrived – and they delivered the result that the country so desperately longed for!

Over to you Mr Southgate …
